Today Alyson and I went to Unwind Yarn in Burbank. I originally wanted to go because they had author Wendy Bernard visiting and signing her new book, Up, Down, All-Around (ABRAMS, 2014), and because I just like yarn and have to buy it whenever I'm near it. Alyson was actually there for kittens.
She's been thinking about adopting some kittens for a long time now, and when she mentioned that she'd like to check out the Pasadena Humane Society, I remembered that my Unwind newsletter mentioned they'd be there today! This saved us from an afternoon of driving around SoCal in search of the perfect kittens.
Alyson pretty much fell in love immediately with a stripey pair of brothers, and so here are Holmes and Watson:
We found out soon enough that the names were pretty appropriate. Holmes was out of the carrier within a few minutes of reaching home and investigating every nook and cranny. Watson, meanwhile, chose to observe cautiously from underneath a dresser in the hallway. I think they will be very happy living with Alyson.
I had a lot of fun helping to set up their new home. We also got to see our friends Thuy, Kimberly, Peggy, and of course the lovely ladies at Unwind. The only thing I missed out on was Quenelle ice cream (I went to high school with the owner!) but I had my hands full of yarn and kittens. We will have to make another trip to Burbank to have some.
What a fun day! I even managed to relax and do nothing after our busy morning and afternoon. I know I'll feel a lot better about getting back to work tomorrow (I have some freelance projects to work on).
