Top Tens, Anyone? Editor's Picks
Beautiful Creatures #1 Best of 2009 Books for Teens

Yeah! BC is #1! Followed closely by my personal favorites, Shiver, Fire, and Catching Fire.

Leviathan was good, but I think more suited to younger readers--I don't see why they had to label it YA.

I have Going Bovine, but haven't read it yet, and the first book to Chaos Walking: The Knife of Never Letting Go.

I think I will check out Claudette Colvin. She's definitely been overlooked historically.

My Top Ten Teen Reads of 2009

7. Fade (Dream Catcher, #2) Fade by Lisa McMann

1. Beautiful Creatures
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

This was a really tough list to put together. I had a really hard time deciding which should be #1--Beautiful Creatures was more fresh in my mind (sorry, Maggie) so that's probably why it ended up where it did.

I only added books to the list which were released in 2009--my favorite book of the year was actually The Name of the Wind, which was published the previous year and is not technically YA, although it did receive an Alex Award. This is a YALSA/ALA award given to adult books with a special appeal to younger readers.
